We Can Be Heroes 2 Confirmed By Netflix As Per Film Director

We Can Be Heroes is confirmed to return for a sequel as announced by its very own director. Robert Rodriguez, famously known for launching the Spy Kids franchise, made his superhero movie debut with 2005’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D. After his recent works on Alita: Battle Angel and The Mandalorian season 2, Rodriguez returned to create an original family-friendly superhero universe.

The Netflix-produced Rodriguez superhero movie premiered in late December 2020. The story follows the children of the Heroics, Earth’s greatest superheroes, as they join forces to stop an alien invasion. We Can Be Heroes featured the return of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, with Pedro Pascal playing this universe’s equivalent of Iron Man. However, the film largely focused on his character’s daughter, Missy Moreno (YaYa Gosselin), and her outstanding leadership skills. She united the other extraordinary children in order to save their parents and the planet.

Now, it has been officially announced that We Can Be Heroes 2 is in development. Rodriguez took to his personal Twitter account to confirm the news. He wrote, “44 MILLION FAMILIES will have suited up for WE CAN BE HEROES in its first 4 weeks!!  And… BREAKING NEWS: The Heroics are coming back for round two! I’m in full development of the sequel with @Netflix!”

Rodriguez’s announcement came with an image poster saying he is in charge of the sequel’s development, writing and directing for the film at the same time. Unfortunately, it does not include information on We Can Be Heroes 2’s official release date.

When will production begin for We Can Be Heroes 2?

Rodriguez is also confirmed to be involved with The Mandalorian spinoff The Book of Boba Fett as a producer. Hence, he might be directing some, if not all of the episodes. On the other hand, the Boba Fett series is already filming and set to come to Disney+ in late 2021. Hopefully, Rodriguez should be able to work on We Can Be Heroes 2 full-time relatively soon.

With Netflix’s projections for We Can Be Heroes, it is not surprising that they will capitalize on its success with a sequel. Rodriguez is even a household name in launching popular kids action franchises, so fans can surely expect for more. With a franchise as big as the Spy Kids, we can only anticipate what awaits for We Can Be Heroes 2. Whether he expands his own universe or combines the two franchises together, we will be on the lookout. It should be fun to see where Rodriguez takes the franchise next either way.
