We Can Be Heroes Release Date, Plot & Trailer

Behold, folks! A new group of heroes has come to rescue Earth from the alien invasion! We Can Be Heroes is an upcoming Netflix Original superhero movie written and directed by Robert Rodriguez. A direct sequel to his 2005 film The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, the movie features smaller superheroes, who step in to save their parents and the planet.

On a recent call with EW, Rodriguez discussed how We Can Be Heroes was brought to life because of the recent pandemic. “A lot of families have spent a lot of time together,” he says. 

“I’ve been getting calls from all kinds of studios. Reboot Spy Kids. Reboot Sharkboy. Of course they want to. They’re all sitting at home with their kids.”

Hence, Rodriguez’s We Can Be Heroes is helmed to catch youngster’s attention. Indeed, the story and adventure looks fun and should be a nice way to entertain kids this coming Christmas. The movie premieres globally on December 25, 2020.

We Can Be Heroes Plot

Years after their adventures as children, Sharkboy and Lavagirl are now grown-up and part of Earth’s mightiest heroes called Heroics. However, when alien invaders defeat and kidnap them, it’s up to their children to learn how to work together to save them and the world.

Here’s the official synopsis of of the superhero film courtesy of Netflix:

“When alien invaders kidnap Earth’s superheroes, their kids are whisked away to a government safe house. But whip-smart tween Missy Moreno (Yaya Gosselin) will stop at nothing to rescue her superhero dad, Marcus Moreno (Pedro Pascal). Missy teams up with the rest of the superkids to escape their mysterious government babysitter, Ms. Granada (Priyanka Chopra-Jonas). If they’re going to save their parents, they’ll have to work together by using their individual powers — from elasticity to time control to predicting the future — and form an out-of-this-world team.”

Netflix just released the film’s full trailer which sees the Heroics’ children sent to an underground room at Heroics Headquarters where Ms. Granada watches over them. However, Missy isn’t content to just sit by and watch her dad and the other superheroes fall. 

“We need to leave this room,” she urges the other kids. “The aliens will be coming for us next.” Using their powers, which range from elasticity to time control to even predicting the future, the young superheroes team up to fight the aliens and save their parents and the Earth.
