Bridgerton Season 2 Release Date, Cast & Plot

Bridgerton may have arrived a little later last year, but it did not come short to reaching a massive success. The show is based on Julia Quinn’s popular 8-book series set in the early 1800s, known as the Regency Period. With a colorful setting, steamy romances, flashy wardrobes, and provocative scandals, viewers were easily hooked in its tumultuous drama. After a shocking revelation at the season’s finale, fans eagerly want to know what will happen next. Will there be a season 2?

Season 1 followed Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of a powerful family as she searches for a marriage partner. However, this task proved very difficult when her older brother stepped in to rule out several potential suitors. When she finally met Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), the Duke of Hastings, their natural chemistry just took off. They create a romantic scheme to please their marriage-minded family members, London high society, and the mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews).

When will Bridgerton season 2 be released?

Showrunner Chris Van Dusen previously spoke to Cosmopolitan UK about a potential Bridgerton season 2, and said that he’d love to do it. “Obviously we’re just focused on the first season right now,” he said.

“And while that focuses on the eldest Bridgerton daughter Daphne and her love affair with Simon, we know there are eight Bridgerton siblings [and] there are eight Bridgerton books. So in success I would love to be able to explore love stories and romances for all the Bridgerton brothers and sisters, of course.”

Unfortunately, a release date for the series sequel is yet to be announced. Filming was reportedly supposed to begin in July 2020 in Uxbridge and was meant to run until May 2021. However, because of the pandemic, new reports claim that the shooting has now been pushed back to March 2021.

What will happen in Bridgerton season 2?

The first season was inspired by Quinn’s first book, The Duke and I, and focuses on the relationship between Simon and Daphne. Meanwhile, the second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me, turns to Bridgerton’s first-born and most eligible bachelor, Anthony. It covers his sudden ascension to duty following his father’s death due to a bee sting.

Moreover, the book also unravels his relationship with a woman called Edwina and her sister Kate Sheffield. This suggests a good chance for season 2 to focus more on Anthony’s quest to finding his perfect match. As for Lady Whistledown, she’ll of course be back to cause more mischief with her Society Papers.

Who will be in Bridgerton season 2 cast?

Of course, our fan-favorite couple Daphne and Simon from season 1 will go nowhere come season 2. This means Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page will return to reprise their roles (should season 2 really happen). In addition, the following regular cast members may also appear:

  • Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington
  • Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton
  • Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton
  • Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton
  • Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton
  • Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton
  • Polly Walker as Lady Portia Featherington
  • Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury
  • Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte
  • Ruby Barker as Marina Thompson
  • Jessica Madsen as Cressida Cowper

While there’s still a lot to wait about Bridgerton’s season 2, season 1 is currently available for streaming on Netflix. Watch the series official season trailer below.
