Doom Patrol season 3 production has officially begun. The series, which initially was a Titans spinoff, centers on a group of misfits who find themselves with strange abilities after facing tragedies. Under the Chief’s (Timothy Dalton) leadership, the unlikely heroes found a company on each other and gradually became a family. The first season was exclusively released to DC Universe in 2019, before transferring to HBO Max for season 2 onwards.
Doom Patrol season 2 ran from June to August 2020, and once again proved successful in delighting its viewers. The season ended with a cliffhanger that saw Dorothy Spinner set out to face the Candlemaker by herself. Fans were left wanting to know more, eagerly anticipating if Doom Patrol would still release future episodes. Fortunately, HBO Max confirmed in September that Doom Patrol has been renewed for season 3.
Now, another good news has arrived for the superhero series’ fans. Doom Patrol stunt coordinator Thom Williams shared a behind-the-scenes picture on Instagram confirming the show has started filming season 3.
In his caption, he wrote, “Are we about to drop the most awesome socially distant album in history?! No. We tried and none of us can sing worth a shit, so I guess we’ll just go film some season 3 of @dcdoompatrol.”
Along with him is the stunt team who happily posed for the photo while reporting for duty.
When will Doom Patrol season 3 be released?
Doom Patrol’s production start comes as a new strain of coronavirus disease strikes, once again shutting down numerous production shoots. However, most of the recorded cases are still centered in Los Angeles, far from its filming location which is Georgia. Assuming it doesn’t suffer any delays, season 3 could premiere by the end of the year. If it does on the other hand, fans might have to wait until 2022. At this point, it’s early to assume what will happen eventually.
Nevertheless, the news of Doom Patrol starting production on season 3 is definitely exciting. Season 2 was cut short by the pandemic, so hopefully season 3 will fill in for its unfinished businesses. Doom Patrol is one of the best DC shows out there right now, and based on where things were left off at the end of season 2, there are still so many stories to be told. Fans can now relax as progress is being made, and their favorite bunch of weirdos will be back soon enough.
