Thor: Love and Thunder’s Tessa Thompson Shares Update About The Movie

Thor: Love and Thunder star Tessa Thompson has recently shared an update about the upcoming Marvel superhero movie. The fourth standalone film about the God of Thunder will feature a number of familiar faces, including Thompson’s Valkyrie. She will reprise her role of an Asgardian warrior, who became the leader of New Asgard at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Recently, the actress generously offered fans information on what to expect with the follow-up project. Speaking to ET, Thompson revealed that Love and Thunder will be “very, very funny and actually very touching.” While she didn’t further elaborate, we wouldn’t expect less as Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi returns to helm the upcoming film.

On the other hand, Waititi has previously confirmed that Love and Thunder will be “very romantic.” The romantic tone could possibly be attributed to the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) love interest. Fans will surely look forward to the pair’s exciting reunion after missing Jane from the last Thor installment.

Meanwhile, more than just returning as a fan-favorite character, Jane is also set to become the female Thor in the movie. Portman confirms that Jane will have “her own version” of Thor’s powers, and that she will be known as the Mighty Thor.

What else do we know about Thor: Love and Thunder?

As of today, the role which Thompson’s Valkyrie will fulfill in the plot has yet to be announced. However, it can be recalled that Thor passed on his title to her after realizing he was no longer fit to rule in Avengers: Endgame. Hence, when asked if she will remain as the King of Asgard, she said “Hell yeah, of course she will. She’s king.”

“If she can’t find her queen, she’ll just be king and queen at the same time,” she added. Her remark hinted at one of Marvel’s first signs of LGBTQ representation. The first openly gay superhero in the MCU will appear in the picture, Eternals. Marvel executive Kevin Feige also affirmed the storyline, promising that we can expect to see wider representation in future MCU movies.

Christian Bale will join the cast of Love and Thunder, playing the film’s main villain, Gorr the God Butcher. Moreover, Chris Pratt will be reprising his role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the movie, suggesting potential appearances for the other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on May 6, 2022.
