Game of Thrones Spinoffs – More To Happen Says HBO Executive

Game of Thrones spinoffs are more likely to happen according to one of the company’s chief executives at HBO. The future looks bright and expansive following the unparalleled success of its original series adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire. GOT’s heightened popularity made it a pop culture phenomenon and led to the creation of a prequel series. Titled House of the Dragon, production for the said show is currently in development.

In an interview with Variety, HBO’s chief content officer Casey Bloys discussed the network’s hopes to expand its cable and streaming content. Since one of its formidable competitors, Disney, had Star Wars and Marvel as its central universe, Bloys was asked if a similar strategy could also apply to HBO. When asked if the ‘Song of Ice and Fire’ world can potentially be considered, Bloys didn’t rule anything out.

“Those are fantastic properties that are decades and decades old,” he said. “I don’t know that it would get that big, but certainly it is a great resource that we have and an amazing world. So I don’t think it’s just going to be the one [show] for the rest of its life.”

It highly seems that HBO isn’t giving up yet on the franchise’s potential future, even beyond House of the Dragon.

What could be awaiting for the Game of Thrones’ spinoff series?

It is noteworthy to remember though that Game of Thrones lost its relevance and popularity after the final season concluded. Much of that decline is attributed to season 8 being heavily lambasted by both fans and critics alike. Many believed that the series’ decade of greatness could not be justified in just a handful of episodes. However, the show stood up for its creative decision which left a handful of fans disappointed if not all.

Nevertheless, HBO continued to develop House of the Dragon, which will tell the early stories of the dragon-taming Targaryen family. The success of the said prequel series will likely predict the future of other GOT contents. If the new series is well received, it could undo some of the damage GOT inflicted on itself in its final season. The Targaryens are certainly one of the franchise’s most popular character groups. Author George R.R. Martin himself has released a good deal of canonical content outlining their history and lineage. Hopefully, all these could help propel House of the Dragon’s viewing popularity and redeem the franchise’s imperial glory.
