Ratched Ranks First For Netflix’s Series Debut In 2020

Netflix’s “Ratched” ranks first among other new series released on the streaming platform this year.

Created by Evan Romansky and developed by Ryan Murphy, Ratched is a prequel to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Next.” Sarah Paulson plays the titular role, a nurse at a psychiatric hospital where unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind.

In a tweet posted on its official account, Netflix claims the series was viewed by 48 million households within its first 28 days. That makes it the streaming service’s top new series of 2020.

Nielsen seemingly concurs, with its own weekly Top 10 list of streaming programs, Ratched claimed the top spot. The period covers from September 14 to September 20. Nielsen ranks programs by their total minutes viewed. Despite its recent premiere on September 18, Ratched has already racked up 972 million views.

The biggest launch in Netflix’s history according to the streaming site’s metrics was “The Witcher.” It debuted on December 20, 2019. The fantasy series which top-bills Henry Cavill was watched by 76 million households in its first month.

Ratched also stars Sharon Stone, Judy Davis, Vincent D’Onofrio, Cynthia Nixon, and Rosanna Arquette. It has already received a green light for a second season last September 2017.
