The 100 Season 8: Has It Been Canceled?

The 100 is a science-fiction drama television series that has been on screens since it aired on The CW in 2014. Based on the popular novel by Kass Morgan, this seven-season series has gotten a great response from Sci-fi fans world-wide, but interest has been decreasing as the seasons have gone on. With the low viewership The 100 faced in its seventh season, has season 8 been canceled?

Has The 100 Season 8 Been Cancelled?

Unfortunately, the CW Network will not be announcing an eighth season of The 100, making season 7 the last and final installment of the series. Due to its inadequate viewership, the series has not been given the green light to continue the story into an eighth season.

Over the course of the last six years, fans have witnessed events in the show that have ranged from murder to metabolized radiation, keeping the audience constantly on their toes. According to Jason Rotherberg, the show’s executive producer, he mentioned how the show doesn’t want to overstay their welcome.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Rotherberg said, “I don’t know if the studio and network would have let us continue into season eight. I assume they would have.” Rotherberg also mentioned how the show’s continuation has made for a long time of telling the story of one group of characters.

The Main Cast of The 100 Throughout the Seasons

In the span of seven seasons, this CW series has featured a recurring set of cast members throughout the story. Although there were cast members added in its sixth and seventh season, The 100 has featured a main set of characters the entire way through, including:

  • Eliza Taylor as Clarke Griffin
  • Paige Turco as Abigail
  • Thomas Mcdonnel as Finn Collins
  • Eli Goree as Wells Jaha
  • Bob Morley as Bellamy Blake
  • Marie Avgeropoulos as Octavia Blake
  • Kelly Hu as Callie CeeCee
  • Devon Bostick as Jasper Jordan
  • Isaiah Washington as Thelonious Jaha

The Plot of The 100

The 100 takes place 97 years after a nuclear war destroys their civilization. In an effort to repopulate the planet, a spaceship sends 100 survivors back to Earth, called grounders. In its last and final season, Clarke nearly dies in a mental battle with Josephine, Clarke throws the Prime leaders out of the airlock, and The Sanctum is saved.

While it’s been made clear that The 100 will not have a season 8, there is word that there will be a prequel to the show, which doesn’t have a name to it yet. In the meantime, all fans can do is hope to see the sequel sooner than later.
