Lil Nas X Performs a Soulful Cover of “Jolene” in the Live Lounge

Lil Nas X is back to his country “Old Town Road” roots with his recent cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. With the release of his new album, “Montero”, Lil Nas X can be seen anywhere and everywhere in the media.

Especially after his unique cover of “Jolene”, the acoustic performance is going viral with almost half a million views in under 24 hours. During his gender-flipping rendition of Parton’s iconic song, the star sports a crystallized microphone, accompanied by butterflies and floral decor.

While the song has been performed by many stars like Miley Cyrus and Norah Jones, Lil Nas X is one of the few male celebrities to cover the classic. Dolly Parton and Lil Nas X are no strangers to each other, as Parton almost featured on his breakout hit, “Old Town Road”.

“I had an opportunity to be part of that [song], but it had done so well with so many people,” she said in an interview with Elle. “I thought, ‘Well, I’ll wait and do something later on. No point in going down that same Old Town Road. We got other roads to travel.'”

Lil Nas X has featured many artists like Mason Ramsey, Billy Ray Cyrus, and BTS in his work in the past, and he continues to collab with many more stars on his newest album, “Montero”. The album was a chance for the star to give fans an inside look into his life.

“You’re getting a lot of stories about me,” he told PEOPLE last week. “You’re getting a lot of stories about my past and where I want to be in my love life. But they’re also a bop. I feel like I finally found a great balance between being as real as possible within my music and making a hit song.”
