“His Dark Materials” has been renewed and its bittersweet!
HBO and BBC One renewed the fantasy drama for a third season that only contains eight episodes to end the story. Production is expected to start sometime in 2021 and will be set in Cardiff, Wales.
Plot of His Dark Materials Season 3
In the show’s previous season, we only had seven episodes due to the pandemic. The story followed Lyra (who is played by Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary girl who happens to be a brave one from another world.
The story began with Lyra, devastated over her best friend’s death and goes on a journey in a weird and mysterious abandoned place. She meets Will (played by Amir Wilson) a boy from our world who is running from a dark past.
They begin to realize that their destinies are tied and one of their goals is to reunite Will with his father. However, working towards that gets a bit more difficult as a war begins to brew in the abandoned city.

So, When Will His Dark Materials Season 3 Be Released?
The show’s second season which is, by the way, produced by Bad Wolf will be concluding on Monday, December 28 on HBO.
As of now, we don’t have any clue on when season 3 will be released. However, Bad Wolf co-founder Jane Tranter announced that Jack Thorne and a team of writers were typing scripts up and that the series will be based on The Amber Spyglass.
According to Francesca Orsi, HBO Programming’s Executive Vice President, “Bringing Phillip Pullman’s epic, intricate and culturally resonant body of work to television has been a tremendous privilege. “We thank our incredible partners at the BBC and the entire Bad Wolf team, led by the indefatigable Jane Tranter, for their exceptional work on the first two seasons.
