Fans may have to experience a longer “Droughtlander” as their beloved show is reportedly filming late for the next season.
Outlander ended its previous season last May, and was set to begin productions for a brand new season that same month. However, filming for the said installment was put on hold after the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus disease. Anxious viewers highly anticipate the details of Jamie and Claire Frasers return on the screen, and it was finally revealed.
Several months after waiting, the UK Casting News surprised followers of the show on a new announcement. In a Twitter post, it revealed that filming for Outlander Season 6 will finally commence in January 2021. The said post garnered a lot of mixed reactions from the fans, with some disappointed at its late development.
One commenter said, “Really, how much filming can one do in January in Scotland??? This is gonna be the longest droughtlander EVER!!!”
On the other hand, some fans still celebrated the news of their favorite show coming back to their screens. One fan commented, “Omg the cold weather is not going to be easy for them, hope they have a lot of indoor filming. But glad to hear season 6 is in the making.”
When will Outlander Season 6 be released?
Actor Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) earlier in June said, “We were supposed to be shooting right now and obviously things are still slightly up in the air, but I think you know, I’m hopeful that we’re gonna be back before we know it. They’re putting plans in place.”
Caitriona Balfe, who stars as Claire Fraser, also added that despite these unprecedented times, the writers continued working on the upcoming chapter. She also shared that although they wanted a season six, they didn’t expect the news to arrive so quickly.
“We kind of hoped that we would get a season five,” she said. “We weren’t really expecting them to pick up both together, so that’s really exciting.”
With the filming being pushed back to 2021, there is a little chance that season 6 will air sooner. Depending on the production’s pace, the show may air later in 2021 or even early 2022.
Meanwhile, you may opt to catch up on your missed Outlander episodes. Seasons 1-5 are available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
