The Haunting of Bly Manor Creator Says No Plans For Season 3

The Haunting of Bly Manor creator Mike Flanagan says there are no plans for a third season at the moment. Flanagan rose to fame through his horror masterpieces over the last few years. These include thriller hits like Ouija: Origin of Evil, Hush, Gerald’s Game, and Doctor Sleep’s sequel, The Shining. On the other hand, his most popular project to date yet is Netflix’s two-season ‘The Haunting’ anthology series.

The Haunting of Hill House debuted in 2018 on the streaming service and was both critically and commercially successful. Critics praised its outstanding portrayal of a horror story, leading to a follow-up which came out later this year. Titled ‘The Haunting of Bly Manor,’ the sequel dropped on Netflix in October and similarly received critical acclaim. Moreover, it tallied a total of 1.2 billion minutes viewership count after release on the streamer.

Despite the success, Flanagan revealed that there are no plans at the moment to make a third season. In what looks like a Q&A with his followers on Twitter, the director replied to a fan’s inquiry about future seasons of the show.

He wrote, “At the moment there are no plans for more chapters. Never say never, of course, but right now we are focused on a full slate of other @intrepid projects for 2021 and beyond. If things change we will absolutely let everyone know!”

Intrepid Pictures is the production company Flanagan runs. The company has sealed a deal with Netflix, which will have Flanagan produce series for the streaming giant. Currently, he’s busy creating the series ‘Midnight Mass,’ another horror show featuring some actors from ‘The Haunting’ franchise.

Will there be no season 3 for ‘The Haunting Series’?

While the next instalment is far from happening for now, Flanagan believed that inspiration for a good horror story is abundant. “I feel like there’s no shortage of ghosts in the world for all of us,” he said. So, if we could find some common language with which to talk about them, then that’s something we always aspire to do this season or beyond, if that’s the way it goes.”

The Haunting of Bly Manor star Victoria Pedretti previously told The Wrap that she “doesn’t really know anything about future series.” Co-star Oliver Jackson-Cohen added, “I think that it’s one of those where, if ‘Bly Manor’ does well, then I’m sure conversations will happen with Netflix. But it’s entirely up to Mike and entirely up to what ideas he’s got up his sleeve. But I think all of us would definitely collaborate and work with him again, if the opportunity arose. But there is genuinely nothing concrete as of now.”

The Haunting of Bly Manor is a resounding success, leaving fans on emotional high after its finale. Surprisingly, Netflix has not immediately worked on a third outing after the second season’s accomplishment. However, Flanagan is a regular Netflix collaborator so the possibility is always open, though it seems like it’s a matter of when.
