FOX: No Longer Pursuing “Empire” Spinoff

Fox has decided not to proceed in making a spinoff of “Empire” centered on Cookie Lyon.

The television-hit and one of the network’s signature drama series was originally planning on making a spinoff series about Taraji P. Henson‘s character, Cookie Lyon.

Empire” was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong and ran on Fox for six amazing seasons. The show was so successful which is why they were in talks of creating a spinoff series, regardless of how big the price tag is.

The thing with spinoffs, especially ones of successful series, it’s more challenging for a broadcast network (like Fox) to cover it. The network not being affiliated with the studio is also an additional factor since Fox and 20th TV was separated since the Disney-Fox acquisition that happened toward the end of Empire.

Not to worry, 20th TV and Imagine TV are still on the lookout for a potential new home for the Empire spinoff, one that is within the Disney TV realm. Of course, ABC and Hulu are the primary targets.

We will also be seeing more of Taraji P. Henson’s beauty and immense talent because she has another TV series in the works. She will also be making her feature directorial debut and star in Two-Faced.
