The Haunting of Bly Manor Places First In Nielsen Streaming Ratings

The Haunting of Bly Manor snatches the first spot on Neilsen’s streaming ratings, in a top 10 dominated by Netflix content. Nielsen’s streaming ratings is its counterpart to the more traditional network viewership ratings, which collates figures from major streaming services. Introduced last September, it surveyed contents from Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max.

For the first week of October, Amazon’s The Boys managed to rack up views while it was releasing new episodes. It fell down the charts eventually and was replaced by Schitt’s Creek, which topped that week’s ratings list. Netflix’s horror series, The Haunting of Bly Manor then placed second that week, after only in its week of release.

Now, for the week covering October 12 to 18 period, the ratings have again been released. This time, The Haunting of Bly Manor finally takes the top spot. In its second week of availability, the series was streamed for a total of 1.82 billion minutes, compared to 1.37 billion minutes of Schitt’s Creek. The 100 and The Office took 3rd and 4th places, respectively. On the other hand, the Great British Baking Show took 5th spot with the first episode of its latest season.

Below is the complete top 10 list fulfilled by Nielsen’s Streaming Ratings for second week of October:

  1. The Haunting of Bly Manor
  2. Schitt’s Creek
  3. The 100
  4. The Office
  5. Great British Baking show
  6. Criminal Minds
  7. Grey’s Anatomy
  8. NCIS
  9. Hubie Halloween (Netflix original movie )
  10. The Blacklist

Limited scope of viewers surveyed

However, it is worth noting that Nielsen only does the survey for those viewing content through their TV sets in the USA. This, somehow, indicates that the ratings are skewed in a way. Nevertheless, the figures collated each week and released a month later, still count a broad enough number of viewers. It is safe to say then that the result is a justifiable reflection of streaming habits in the USA at least.

Netflix has continuously dominated the list, with most spots taken up by Netflix originals or library content on the service. Hence, the promotion of The Haunting of Bly Manor to the first rank shouldn’t come as a surprise. Its first installment, The Haunting of Hill House, was also a huge success for Netflix. Therefore, fans can’t wait to binge on its follow-up series as soon as it comes available. This week gave the series a full week to count streams as opposed to just three days the week prior. It is obviously a matter of time that it eventually reached the top spot.
