The Crown Season 4: New Photos Show Recreation of Charles and Diana’s Engagement

Ahead of The Crown season 4 premiere this weekend, Netflix has released four new photographs to further promote the series. The photos feature Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin in character for their flawless recreation of Charles and Diana’s engagement photos.

Netflix wrote, “Whatever ‘in love’ means. The Crown S4, coming this Sunday.”

In the photos, the pair seemingly attends to the press while addressing the news of their engagement. Moreover, one image can be seen with a room full of photographers taking pictures of the young couple.

The pictures were so accurate, they are almost indistinguishable from the original. One amused fan took to Twitter to share comparisons among the original and recreated images.

The images reiterate how perfect the casting of O’Connor and Corrin is, at least from a physical level of resemblance. Recent promotions also highlight Corrin’s portrayal of Princess Diana’s prominent life events. In other words, season 4 will heavily focus on Diana’s narrative aside from the Queen and Prime Minister Thatcher’s rivalry.

What will The Crown season 4 be all about?

Created and written by Peter Morgan, Netflix’s The Crown is one of the most popular series on the streaming service. This historical drama chronicles the reign of the longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, in the British history. Season 1 starred Claire Foy as the Queen and covered her ascension to the throne following her father’s death. On the other hand, season 2 tackled the late 1950s and social turmoil of the 1960s.

Season 3 took place in the 1970s and replaced the principal cast for older actors to realistically portray ageing characters. Oscar-winner Olivia Colman replaced Foy in the lead, and Josh O’Connor joined the cast, playing the apparent heir, Prince Charles.

Season 4 will cover the 1980s, introducing two significant women in British history. They are Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female Prime Minister, and Lady Diana Spencer, the enchanting princess who captured people’s hearts during her reign. Gillian Anderson plays Thatcher while Emma Corrin portrays Diana. The season is set to focus on the Queen’s difficulty negotiating these two new women in her life.

The Crown follows a casting tradition which sees replacement of actors every two seasons. In other words, the cast members of season 4 will be swapped out for season 5 and season 6. For Corrin, this is her only chance to shine as she is set to be replaced by actress Elizabeth Debicki.

The Crown season 4 premieres on November 15 on Netflix.
