The Crown Season 4, the latest installment of the prestige series will introduce Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) to Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin). Viewers will get to see how their romance will evolve up to their eventual marriage in 1981.

Last Saturday, Netflix unveiled the first full look of actress Emma Corrin wearing the ivory gown, as if anxiously awaiting for the wedding ceremonies.

The wedding dress in the series is created by costume designer Amy Roberts. Despite having the trademark details of puffy sleeves from the original design, it is not exactly a replica of the dress. Amy shares that she wanted “to pull in many of the style choices and create the same spirit of David and Elizabeth Emanuel’s original design, but make something new.”

For that reason, Amy collaborated personally with David Emmanuel. She says that he was enormously helpful, talking the design team through the detail of many of the original drawings. The result paved the way for the creation of their beautiful dress masterpiece.

“Four months and five fittings later, with three people spending a collective 600 hours working, they had a dress. It’s made of 95 metres of fabric and 100 metres of lace, with a train that is approximately 30 metres long,” Netflix added.

Commenters can’t help but compliment the similarities between the two gowns, even considering that they might be the same piece. “Oh my god it’s the exact spirit of Princess Diana’s wedding dress… can’t wait,” a fan commented.
