Followers of the feisty queenpin Teresa Mendoza were worried when production for season 5 shut down early this year. Queen of the South initially started filming the fifth season in March before it halted amid the coronavirus pandemic. Lucky for the fans though, Alice Braga (Teresa Mendoza) assures them that their favorite show is returning very soon.
Queen of the South season 4 took us to New Orleans where Teresa expanded her drug running operations. Having been ditched by her loyal partner James Valdez (Peter Gadiot), Teresa was surprised by his sudden re-emergence. James’ intriguing caveat made the fans all the more anticipate the series’ return for season 5.
When is Queen of the South season 5 resuming production?
Although USA Network finally gave the greenlight in August last year, filming for the hit series was put on hold. Queen of the South faced many delays due to COVID-19, despite originally being scheduled to release over the summer. Back then, season 5 had just started production and is still far from culminating a season’s worth of materials.
However, show’s top-biller Alice Braga dispelled some of the fans’ concerns and assured them that production is now underway. Season 5 will resume filming by the end of this month.
Braga revealed, “We stopped as soon as COVID started. So we’re going to go back, I think, end of October, beginning of November. Finally, they gave us the green-light.”
The star also confirmed that the cast will head back to set in the next couple of weeks.
Braga furthered, “So now we have all the protocols in place, and I do believe that we’re going to have it made by the end of the year.”
If filming indeed wraps before the end of 2020, Queen of the South is highly likely to return in 2021.
What can we expect from Queen of the South season 5?
Keeping her lips tightly sealed, Braga said, “I cannot tease much. They’re going to kill me if I do! But definitely, what I can say is that Teresa’s going to get in a lot of trouble.”
“She’s becoming the boss. She already has the business, but a lot’s going to happen in season five because she got to that point where she really is a powerful woman, like everybody thought that she would be,” Braga added.
Queen of the South season 5 has no official release date yet, but previous seasons can be streamed on Netflix.
