After the unpredictable and highly emotional finale last season, all eyes are now on the hit period drama’s succeeding developments. Lucky for those awaiting, Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht has good news for the show’s avid viewers.
“Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World.”
However, when will Outlander season 6 be finally out? What do we know about its cast and trailer? We ran down everything we got about the show below.
Outlander Season 6 Release Date
In a Twitter reply, Sam Heughan confirmed that they started working on season 6 even before season 5 finale aired.
The fan asked, “have you read S6 scripts yet?” and he responded, “We have started… Ep 1!!! So excited. But you’re going to love the rest of this season.”
However, in mid-March, the team decided to halt production because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In an interview, Heughan said, “We were supposed to be shooting right now and obviously things are still slightly up in the air, but I think you know, I’m hopeful that we’re gonna be back before we know it. They’re putting plans in place.”
Last month though, the UK News Casting announced that filming for Outlander Season 6 will finally commence in January 2021.
With the filming being pushed back to 2021, we may not be able to see season 6 sooner. It is predicted that the show may air sometime in 2021 or even early 2022.
Outlander Season 6 Plot
Official details for the plot of season 6 have yet to be released, but it’s likely to adapt the book. Following the sixth part in Diana Gabaldon’s series, it will focus more on the aftermath of season 5. Jamie becomes drawn into the American Revolution while Claire continues to cope with her trauma. This will follow after the political unrest heightens and the Frasers attempt to lead a peaceful life in North Carolina.
Executive producer Ronald Moore also revealed how the new season will see them head closer to the American Revolution.
“The large thing that’s still defining where we are is we’re in the new world, we’re in the American colonies and the American Revolution is getting closer,” he explained. “So that’s a big thing that’s going to be moving front and center the further that we get into season six.”

Outlander Season 6 Trailer
There is no official trailer released for Outlander season 6 yet, as filming has yet to commence too. For the previous season, the trailer was released four months before the series premiere. As such, we can expect a glimpse at season 6 sometime in 2021.
