Is There A Season 5 Of Riverdale?

The Archie Comics based series has been delighting and surprising mystery enthusiasts since 2017.

Its huge popularity propelled Riverdale to be renewed season after season, with its latest coming out last October 2019. During its run, the show suffered logistical problems due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This resulted in a premature finale for the beloved CW show. Fans now worry that season 5 will suffer the same fate.

Will there be a season 5 for Riverdale?

Despite film setbacks, everything is still in place for season 5 to return early next year. Fans can now relax as creators confirmed the news early this year. CW renewed 13 flagship shows including Riverdale back in January, to allow production teams a head start in plotting story arcs.

Moreover, last September, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that they have resumed filming for the show in an Instagram post.

The caption reads, “Annnnnd #Riverdale is back. First scene up of Season 5: Archie in a steam room. Even in a Covid world, some things never change…”

In another photo he recently shared, Aguirre-Sacasa teased fans with some filmed scenes after wrapping its second week of shoot.

What will be Riverdale Season 5’s plot?

Details including the plot and trailer are still being kept under wraps at this stage. An official release date for the upcoming season is yet to be released too. However, actress Lili Reinhart has confirmed a major turnaround in the forthcoming installment –  a seven-year time jump.

“We’re actually doing a seven-year time jump into the future so we’re not going to be teenagers anymore,” Reinhart confesses.

“I’m really psyched about it. I think it will be really nice to play an adult. But I also really appreciate that Roberto, our showrunner, said let’s revamp. So we’re not just stuck in high school for seven seasons.”

Aguirre-Sacasa has also promised fans that the prom episode, originally intended for previous season will be the first one to kick off season five.

He said, “There’s a lot of stuff with the characters that we’re still playing out, so it felt like maybe what we’ll do is start with the last three episodes.”

“After being with the kids at the high school for four years, you kind of don’t want to take graduation away from them. So what we’re doing is picking up right where we left off for the first three episodes.”

Riverdale is produced by Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Streaming online is available on the CW’s website and app, and on Netflix.
