Will Jughead Be In Season 5 Of Riverdale Or Is He Really Dead?

Who doesn’t love a series rich with spooky twists and cliffhangers? Riverdale is no stranger to this formula in terms of its intricate plots and surprising reveals throughout each season. Its season 4, although cut short because of the pandemic, did not disappoint especially in dealing with Jughead’s fate. Will he be in season 5 or is he really dead? We got you covered here.

Season 3 finale showed us a flash-forward scene of Betty Cooper (Lili Reinart), Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) standing in their underwear in the middle of the woods. Viewers watched on as they witnessed the three friends throw Jughead Jones’ (Cole Sprouse) beanie into a fire. They all vowed to never speak of what happened that night.

When the fourth season began, episodes then encountered more flash-forward moments leading fans to think that Jughead is really dead. From his body being shown in the coroner’s office, to his dad and sheriff FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) arresting Betty, Archie and Veronica for his son’s murder, it seemed pretty convincing.

However, Stonewall Prep student Donna Sweett (Sarah Desjardins) was having doubts about whether or not Jughead was actually dead. She thought that the rest of the Core Four might simply be covering for him.

In the latest installment of Riverdale though, we finally got the answer after the long mystery has been revealed.

The show confirmed that Jughead is alive, although hiding after the Stonewall Prep students tried to murder him. With Betty, Archie, and Veronica as his accomplices, they made it look like he was really dead. Jughead uses this time to figure out why they had tried to murder him.

In the show’s “The Locked Room” episode, Jughead and Betty gathered those at Stonewall Prep to explain what had been going on. In a bid for a contract as the next ghostwriter of Baxter Brothers books, the students were tasked to commit the perfect murder by Dupont (Malcom Stewart). Their victim had to be Jughead.

He further explains that this was how all of the previous ghostwriters had won their contracts, including Mr. Chipping. Overwhelmed with so much guilt for what he had done, he threw himself out of a window.

However, the biggest killer of them all was Dupont himself. He was the one behind the mysterious murders of the Stonewall Four. The said students knew his secret about stealing the idea for a book series from Jughead’s grandfather Forsythe I (Timothy Webber). Forsythe I was the remaining person from the writers’ group who knew what he did and who was still alive. That is why he is interested in Jughead.

Unfortunately, when Dupont was about to be taken away by the police, he also jumped to his death out of the window.

Will Jughead be in Season 5?

After the show’s reveal, we can expect Cole Sprouse returning to our screens as our favorite character Jughead.

While an official trailer for the season 5 is still unavailable, the previous seasons are always up for streaming. You can watch them on CW’s website and app, or on Netflix.
