For Tommy Shelby in BBC One’s Peaky Blinders, things went from bad to worse in the last season of the crime drama show. After the release of the latest season, fans are waiting anxiously for the next installment, as season six has been delayed due to the ongoing pandemic.
According to an interview with Digital Spy, director Anthony Byrne has hopes to begin shooting towards the end of 2020 or early 2021. While that feels achievable, it’s uncertain whether or not it will actually happen.
“We were due to start filming at the end of March until the end of July. If we did start shooting in January, we wouldn’t finish until May / June and then it’s another 6 months of editing,” said Byrne.
Based on his predictions, it seems that the beloved series won’t hit the screens again until the end of 2021 or early 2022.
Will there be a Peaky Blinders series 7?
Just because the production of season 6 has come to a halt, doesn’t mean that the directors haven’t been thinking about a seventh installment. According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator Steven Knight confirmed that there will be a seventh season that will center on the start of a new war.
“I’m planning to keep the story going until the first air raid siren of the Second World War. Then it will be a true story of a family between the wars,” said Knight, “I’m pretty close to completing season 6 in terms of scripts, and then we’ll shoot that, and then I will embark on season 7.”
While there is much anticipation for what could be the last season of Peaky Blinders, it looks like it’s going to be quite some time before we see series 7 hit the screens.
At the end of the last season, fans were kept on the edge of their seats as we last saw Tommy Shelby with a gun in his hand, pointing at his own head. After many betrayals and a failed assassination attempt against MP Oswald Mosley, Tommy was left feeling infuriated.
While we don’t know what will the peaky blinders’ next move will be, will Tommy Shelby die in season 7? All we can do is hope season 6 will bring answers sooner than later.
