Monsterland is an upcoming American anthology web horror series created and produced by Mary Laws. The series will portray spine-chilling creatures as the enablers and victims of selfish and conflicted humans. Exploring the blurred lines between monsters and humans, it reveals that true threats actually come from the people they encounter.

Monsterland Release Date

Just in time for the Halloween season, Monsterland will premiere on October 2 on Hulu. First known as “The Untitled Mary Laws Project,” its pre-production dates back to as early as May 2019. Later that year, casting calls for the project made headlines as the show got officially retitled.

Monsterland Cast and Plot

Monsterland takes us in a fantasy world where encounters with mermaids, fallen angels, and other strange beasts drive broken people to desperate acts. In an attempt to repair their lives, they ultimately show the existing thin line between a man and a monster.

The first season will contain eight independent episodes with different sets of prominent actors appearing in each featured tale. One in particular is where Kaitlyn Dever appears as a struggling waitress and young mother to a troubled little girl. She is almost hopeless until she meets a mysterious stranger named Alex (Jonathan Tucker). His presence and ability to change identities will make Toni question her own reality.

Mike Colter will also play Brian in a separate episode, titled “Newark, New Jersey.” It centers around Brian, a grieving husband who blames himself after his daughter’s disappearance under his custody. Guilty and despaired, he refuses to believe that she is dead. He could hardly move on with his life and became emotionally unavailable to his wife.

In another episode titled “Iron River, MI” Kelly Marie Tran stars as Lauren who returns to the same hometown that her best friend went missing in years prior. The rest of the Monsterland cast includes Taylor Schilling, Adepero Oduye, Roberta Colindrez, Charlie Tahan, Nicole Beharie, Hamish Linklater, and Bill Camp.

Monsterland Trailer

Hulu dropped the official trailer for its original anthology horror last September 12. Framed through Kaitlyn Dever’s character, she speaks about the choices people make throughout their lives. She begins, “When you’re born, when you were a little baby, there’s a million you’s you could be.”

We then see short snapshots of the horrors the characters played by Nicole Beharie, Mike Colter and Taylor Schilling, among others, will endure.
