Hulu teams up with Marvel to unveil its latest television series, Helstrom. This Marvel Cinematic Universe project appears to be darker and grimmer than the usual MCU offerings that we see. It is set to premiere this October, but when exactly is its release date?
Helstrom is an upcoming web television series based on Marvel Comics and produced by the TV franchise of the same name. Paul Zbyszewski, (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) who wrote the series, serves as its showrunner and executive producer together with Jeph Loeb.
Helstrom Release Date
Just in time for the spooky season, this horror-themed series is expected to hit Hulu on October 16.
Reports back in May 2019 first revealed that Marvel Television was producing a TV series featuring Daimon and Ana Helstrom. The production then started October that year and was expected to finish in February 2020.
Last March 15, it was reported that filming for the first season of Helstrom has officially wrapped up.
On June 22, Hulu announced that the series would be released on October 16 in time for Halloween 2020.
Helstrom Plot
Helstrom centers around siblings Daimon and Ana Helstrom, children of a powerful and mysterious serial killer. They join forces and form a complex dynamic as they chase down the worst of humanity with their own attitude and skills.
In the comics, both characters’ roots trace back to a Satanic horror ploy to bridge the human and demonic world. Various teases of the series also suggest that it will be a darker affair than most other MCU titles.
“Marvel’s known for all the heart, humor, and action they put into every series, but this time around we’re adding some scares to that mix. I think we’ve found a compelling way to dissect some of our deepest fears through the experiences of our two lead characters,” said Zbyszewski.
Helstrom Cast
The series stars Tom Austen as Daimon Helstrom aka Son of Satan, and Sydney Lemmon as Ana Helstrom aka Satana.
They are joined by Elizabeth Marvel as Daimon and Ana’s mother, Victoria, who has been institutionalized for 20 years. Also appearing is Robert Wisdom as Caretaker, a demon-fighting guardian of the occult; June Carryl as Louise Hastings, head of the psychiatric institution housing Victoria; and Ariana Guerra as Vatican agent Gabriella Rossetti.
Helstrom Trailer
Hulu released its original’s official trailer last September 23. The scene opens with a voiceover that says, “For centuries, we’ve been fighting and keeping track of things that move in and out of this world. The most dangerous ones, we find a way to contain. This is one of the worst ever.” We then see Daimon reunited with his mother, although she seemed possessed by a demonic entity. He informs Ana by the phone that whatever the thing is inside their mother, it’s growing stronger.
The trailer ends with Caretaker pointing out that “the last thing that the world needs is a Helstrom family reunion.” We can’t help then but anticipate how the two will work together in order to deal with the powerful demon.
