DC/Warner Bros continues their directionless scramble to nowhere with the announcement that Joaquin Phoenix will play the Joker in a yet untitled Joker Origin movie.
If you’re a bit confused by the announcement, it’s probably because DC/Warner Bros currently has a Joker in their DC Universe, played with great mediocrity by Jared Leto. Leto’s Joker is slated to return in three upcoming Joker-heavy movies, all of which will probably bomb.
But who cares? Not DC! Not Warner Bros! They’re moving full-on with ANOTHER FUCKING JOKER! The untitled film is supposedly going to introduce the new line of DC-based films, DC Dark. I’m sure this new line of DC movies will be just what Warner Bros needs to right the ship on their already existing and not good DCU films (Wonder Woman notwithstanding).
Anyway. The forthcoming Joker picture is slated to begin shooting in September and will be directed by bro-comedy mastermind Todd Phillips (Hangover, Hangover 2, Hangover 3, Due Date, School for Scoundrels, Old School, Starsky & Hutch).
So. Yeah. Welcome to the party, JP.
