Things I love:
Keanu Reeves. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
How much Bill S. Preson, Esquire loves his friend, Ted “Theodore” Logan. Also, Noah’s Wife.
Things I don’t love:
Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.Seriously. It isn’t good.
Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves were already too old to play the parts in 1991.Only three years later, the sequel felt like a retread of one good idea.Moving on.
Another thing I don’t like: Man-Child Movies. There’s just too many.Peter Pan Syndrome, some call it.This isn’t to say that good movies don’t examine why men refuse to grow up.Or that great immature doofus comedies don’t exist.
But overall, of these stories of white man-children refusing responsibilty, there are just too many. And there have been for decades.Another thing I don’t like: Nostalgia-driven Reboot/Sequels.Yes. They work sometimes. But generally speaking they are:
Utterly forgettable.Truly unfunny.Completely unnecessary.Or, damaging to the original. And yet. They come.
It’s not that they’re all terrible. I’m just saying I don’t like them,
A perfect storm. There was already a bad sequel. There are too many nostalgia-drive retreads. And, on the list of things that the world needs, another movie of man-children bro-ing out together comes right near the bottom (above a new Nickelback record, below another Ernest Cline novel).
Take your own advice, dudes, and let it go.
