The official trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling and featuring the return of Harrison Ford in yet another iconic role (when will this guy quit?) has been released.
BR 2049 is, of course, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi cult classic. Blade Runner is as sacred as Star Wars and Star Trek in some circles, and many avid fans, like me, are very concerned that Villeneuve’s film will suck. However, Villeneuve has demonstrated his mastery with wonderful, darkly enigmatic films like last year’s Arrival, Sicario, Enemy, and Prisoners and from the trailer, BR 2049 looks gorgeous, dark, and strikes a feeling similar to the original film. The big question we are left with is: Do we even need a Blade Runner sequel? With Jared Leto as the supposed villain, Halt and Catch Fire’s Mackenzie Davis as a replicant, and Harrison Ford and Edward James Olmos resuming their roles from the first movie, we could have an awesome sequel in the works.
If it sucks, however, there will be hell to pay.
