Here is sentence no one, ever, has uttered: “Batman v Superman would have been so much better if it was longer and more brutal.” No one. Ever. Said that. You know why? Because it’s too fucking long. And it’s too fucking violent (or at minimum, unnecessarily violent).
And yet here we are, seeing the R-rated trailer for BvS.
There is a lot of new stuff here. New characters, new scenes, new punchings. And apparently all of the old, since the Batman v Superman: the Ultimate Edition has a run time over three hours.
It is possible that this will be an improvement. I didn’t actually hate hate hate this movie the first time in came out all the way back in two months ago (in my review, I describe the film as terrible, true, but there is stuff worth liking). I can actually imagine a way to make BvS quite good. But in my imagination, that would involve cutting the weight of this overweight, unnecessarily burdensome picture. WB decided to go LONGER. We’ll see what we get.
If nothing else, the trailer teaches us that Jena Malone was in this movie, and Jena Malone rules. Why you would cut her from your big dumb movie in the first place is a real question, Zack.
