The second season of Daredevil is right around the corner, and the prospect of new adventures for The Man Without Fear couldn’t be more exciting. With the introduction of new characters to the Marvel Universe, this season should have all the elements it needs to be even better than the first. We now have more details on the costumes of the cast, and we must admit that things are looking great.
It’s been known for a while that Season 2 of Daredevil was going to add the lethal vigilante, The Punisher, as well as the enigmatic assassin, Elektra, to the fray and that they would be portrayed by Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead and Elodie Yung of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, respectively. Based on the level of quality we’ve come to expect from Daredevil, this interpretation of the heroes will erase any lingering memory of the abysmal big-screen adaptations of Elektra and Punisher. So yes, we’re willing to be open minded for the new iterations.
For the uninitiated, in the comic books Elektra Natchios is a mysterious Greek assassin and on-again, off-again lover of Daredevil. Elektra is another pupil of Daredevil’s blind master, Stick (Scott Glenn), and spent time as a member of the evil order of mystical ninjas known as The Hand. We have a sneaking suspicion that these connections will put her at odds with our visually-impaired hero on more than one occasion. The Punisher (also known as Frank Castle) is a former military man who decided to wage a one-man war on the criminal element following the tragic death of his family at the hands of the mob. However, the Punisher’s more lethal approach to meting out vigilante justice often puts him at odds with the more judicious heroes of the Marvel universe, notably Daredevil.
The Punisher is sporting a fresh take on his classic skull logo that seems to be applied to some bulletproof, tactical armor coupled with a rugged, black leather duster to complete the ensemble. In a series of billboards featuring the characters, the Punisher was seen sporting a minigun and we’re curious if this will be his weapon of choice in the new season. It looks like Daredevil and Elektra are bringing billy-clubs and sais to a gun fight, and they’re about to find themselves woefully unprepared.
Meanwhile, Elektra is rocking her black and red ninja suit in the recently released trailer complete with a mask that reminds us of the outfit worn by super-heroine Silk of the Spider-Man universe. And the new costumes have shown in up in more than just the Netflix original series. In additional efforts to drum up excitement for the new season, the characters have received a digital update as well. There are alternate costumes based on the TV versions available in both Marvel: Future Fight and Marvel Heroes 2016. The House of Ideas has also used mobile and browser-based gaming to court the casual audience with slot-based games based on their beloved heroes and some of their greatest villains as well. We definitely expect to see a bigger showdown between Daredevil and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) this time around and we’d love to see some hints at one of Daredevil’s greatest enemies, Bullseye, although that’s more wishful thinking at this point.
The second season of Daredevil is set to premiere on Netflix on March 18, 2016.
