The big winner at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. It’s a movie about a teenage girl who is dying of Leukemia, and the two boys who befriend her and decide to make a movie for her before she dies.
It won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance, and by all accounts, brought down the house in weepy applause. Today, the trailer was released and it looks, indeed, sad. But more, it also appears to be a movie about movies and stories and how we love them. And, for good measure, it also appears to be a movie about a boy and how he just can’t handle the emotional stress of someone else’s tragedy.
Which, say what you want to say about The Fault in our Stars, (last year’s smash hit about teens with cancer) but that movie knows whose tragedy is whose.
Regardless, it’s one to look forward to. Enjoy.
