The ongoing saga that is Ghostbusters 3 entered a new chapter recently. Details aren’t solid yet, but at the moment it appears that the film—if it really happens—will be not a straight sequel but a reboot, with a female-led cast of spirit chasers. I haven’t been to eager for this movie, myself, but the notion of a female-fronted reboot is promising, at least, and got me interested in this project for the first time.
Even more exciting is the news that one of the directors under consideration for the film is Paul Feig, who directed some of Hollywood’s funniest ladies in Bridesmaids and The Heat. This is promising news, I think. The original Ghostbusters starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis in career-making roles—why shouldn’t a new Ghostbusters be centered around some of the female stars currently dominating comedy?
Feig’s attachment to the project gives us room to dream about the casting. Who would you put in a female-led Ghostbusters? I personally wouldn’t mind if the entire cast of Bridesmaids came back in a movie like this. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, or Sandra Bullock would be great in these roles as well. Who would you cast?
