This is what David O. Russell had to say about Jennifer Lawrence’s commitment to The Hunger Games series:
“I personally think they should give her a bit of breathing room over there because they’re printing money. But she’s a very alive person. I’ll tell you what it is about that girl — talk about 12 years of slavery, that’s what the franchise is. And I’m going to get in so much trouble for saying that.”
There are certain phrases that are better off left unsaid. One of those has to be: “I’m probably going to get in so much trouble for saying that.” Any comments that accompany this phrase are indeed likely to get one in trouble.
It’s in the same family as: “I’m not racist, but”; and, “Now I’m all for equal rights”, and “Don’t quote me on this.” Most of what accompanies these phrases is likely going to be racist, discriminatory, and quoted.
As to the content of Mr. Russell’s comments, the Stake has no opinion on whether Ms. Lawrence’s commitments to The Hunger Games are indeed being pressed too far.
