There’s a Terminator reboot in the works, currently with the working title of Terminator: Genesis. No plot details yet, but we know a bit about the casting:
1) Arnold Schwarzenegger will return in some capacity
2) Jason Clarke, the torturer from Zero Dark Thirty, will play John Connor
3) Emilia Clarke, the Khaleesi herself, will play Sarah Connor
It appears that attention is now turning to casting Kyle Reese, the man sent back in time to protect Sarah Connor in the original James Cameron film.
I must admit, when I first heard this news of a Terminator reboot, my reaction (as with so many reboots) was: Why? The first two Terminator movies are, in my opinion, near-perfect action movies, and not in need of revisiting. By all means, let’s keep the Terminator franchise going—I’d like to know more about what happened to Sarah between Terminator and Terminator 2, and what happened to John between Terminator 2 and Judgment Day (we’ll not speak of Rise of the Machines; I prefer to pretend it didn’t happen). I’m sure that a talented, imaginative writer could easily spin out the mythology in interesting ways.
But please don’t touch Terminator and Terminator 2.
I’m in the minority, though, and if you’re going to restart the series, well, Emilia Clarke isn’t such a bad choice. Who better than the Mother of Dragons to play the mother of John Connor?
Boring.
(not the post, of course, but a Terminator remake).
Makes me want to increase my plea for viewers to support original sci-fi.
Absolutely. The money and energy that goes into these high-budget/high-risk reboots could support many, many original stories.
