It was announced back in September that Dark Horse was set to release a new Firefly continuation. Which is great news for sci-fi fans, Whedon fans, comic books fans, and Georges Jeanty fans.
Jeanty, the artist behind the new Serenity, as well as Buffy Seasons 8 and 9 and The American Way, recently spoke in Las Vegas about Serenity: Leaves on the Wind.
Here’s a few notes of interest from Jeanty for eager Serenity awaiters (like me):
Drawing likenesses is hard. Drawing a lot of likenesses for every issue, plus a world of supporting players must be quite taxing. Jeanty has seven recurring from Firefly, ”not counting any of the guest stars we might have seen on previous episodes.”
The book will pick up 9 months after Serenity‘s conclusion. Which can mean only one thing: “Zoe and Wash’s baby, first alluded to in Serenity: Float Out, will feature in the comic in some form.”
Jeanty was asked about the disappointment some Browncoats felt upon hearing the news of a comic continuation. Many took such news to imply no more Firefly on the big or small screen. To which Jeanty said: “I thought just the opposite, I thought, especially when Joss was on it, this was something where if there was gonna be a film, he was working it out in comics first.”
Take that for what you will.
Jeanty is currently working on #3. Serenity: Leaves on the Wind #1 arrives in stores January 29th.
