It is the last night of the Obama Administration.
So, farewell, President Obama and Vice-President Biden. As elected officials, you’ll be missed, I assure you.
I don’t thank you for the war, the drones, the spying. But I thank you for the ACA, the recovery, pursuing equality and justice, looking for ways to end discrimination, facing the madness of America’s incarceration addiction. And countless other ways that you worked to heal our ailing planet and expand justice for those who lack it.
More so, and perhaps more importantly, as models for what America means, at home and abroad, your absence is already felt.
I thank you for your dignity, and class. You’ve taught me to be a better man, and many others, and I wish my young children could grow up to see you in the highest office, to see men of compassion and emotion and empathy, instead of the man that now comes to take your seat.
But that is for tomorrow. Tonight it’s just a thanks.
